Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from Northeast Florida waterfront owners — organized by topic.

Getting Started

We connect waterfront property owners throughout Northeast Florida with local contractors, including in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Palm Valley, St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach, Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Orange Park, Fleming Island, and Green Cove Springs.

Permits & Regulations

Most new construction, structural repairs, and any change to a structure's footprint require a permit from your county, and often the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and/or Army Corps of Engineers as well. Minor in-kind repairs typically don't require a new permit. See our Florida Dock Permits guide for a full breakdown.

Costs & Timelines

Most dock repairs range from $400 to $6,000 depending on the scope of damage. See our full Dock Repair Cost guide for a detailed cost table by repair type.

Materials & Durability

A well-built pressure-treated wood dock typically lasts 15-25 years with regular maintenance. Composite decking on a sound frame can last 25+ years. Concrete and vinyl seawalls typically last 30-50 years; timber seawalls average 15-25 years.

Storms & Emergencies

Yes. Submit a request through our Emergency Storm Damage form and we'll prioritize routing it to a local contractor for a fast response. Contact your insurance carrier as well to begin your claim.

Working With Us

No — this site is a free matching service that connects you with independent local marine contractors; we don't perform construction or repair work ourselves. We recommend confirming any contractor's Florida license and insurance directly with them (and, if you'd like to double-check, via the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation) before hiring.
